During my quiet time today the Lord convicted my heart about a family situation I am dealing or not dealing with: fall back into bad habits sometimes!!!! My old self avoided all conflict and difficult people but I have learned some valuable tools. The avoidance behavior stemmed from the lack of strong communication skills or the appropriate emotional intelligence to deal with difficult situations or people. However, the last three decades I have dedicated time with the Lord to developed new skill sets. I've learned when I am not addressing difficulty, it turns into bitterness and unforgiveness! Now I employ to understand before I seek to be understood which I believe reflects the hands and feet of Jesus. Another key skillset is "active listening" and to speak non combative words when upset, but the TRUTH in love and grace is part of the hard conversation. As we all know, truth sometimes is uncomfortable so seek Jesus's words for each time. Keep in mind, only Jesus can change someones heart, ask Him to extend the proper patiences, grace and love needed in difficult situations, and watch Him work it out for His Glory.
